You’re probably asking, what on earth they are talking about. Let me elaborate a little have you ever received an email claiming you have a parcel to pick up or you were caught by a speed camera, If you haven’t then you’re one of the lucky ones, 90% of the time there “phishing” or “spoofing” emails.
Fraudulent emails adopt many different forms and are the unauthorized actions of third parties not associated with companies like UPS and FedEx. These email messages referred to as “phishing” or “spoofing” are becoming more common and may appear legitimate by incorporating company brands, colours, or other legal disclaimers.
In addition to other fraudulent emails two new email “spoofs” are currently circulating. An example contains the subject line “United Parcel Service Notification” and the other states “Your Package Has Arrived!” Neither of these are legitimate UPS communications, nor opening or clicking on the included attachment may result in the installation of malware onto your computer. These are some examples of many.
The other is a happy snap of your car being photographed going over the speed limit it leads you to a specific site then runs a Virus in the form of a Crypto locker which encrypts all your documents including anything on a mapped network drive path. They then ask for a ransom to unlock your files. So make sure you backup your data in any case you should be doing it anyway but we can discuss this in my next blog.
If you receive these emails, do not follow any links provided or click on any attachments. Instead, simply delete the email.
